The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has finally hit the Australian market with a bang!

This latest edition comes at a higher price point than its predecessor, but boy, does it pack a serious punch in the performance department!

Under the hood, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out a whopping 235 kW (315 hp) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque.

This beastly engine features a lightweight die-cast aluminum block with reinforced main bearing caps, as well as a super lightweight forged-steel crankshaft and pistons cooled by oil jets.

The improved i-VTEC system continuously adjusts the intake and exhaust camshaft phase, resulting in maximum performance.

The engine is mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission with an automatic rev-matching feature that sends power to the front wheels.

To help put all that power to the ground effectively, the car is equipped with a helical-type limited-slip differential.

The car also comes standard with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires measuring 265/30 R19 at all four corners, as well as forged wheels that are both strong and lightweight.

Aussie car shoppers can choose from four stylish colors: Rally Red, Crystal Black, Championship White, or Sonic Grey.

The interior is less customizable, with all examples featuring red seats and carpets, as well as a red Honda badge on the steering wheel, a Type R plate on the dashboard, and a lovely aluminum shift knob.

The hot hatch also comes standard with a 9-inch infotainment display that features Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, satellite navigation, USB connectivity, and even a data logger!

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is available in only one trim level, but it comes packed with some seriously cool features.

These include a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a traffic sign recognition system, an intelligent speed limiter, a driver attention monitor, an acoustic windshield, and auto-retractable door mirrors.

Of course, all these impressive specs come at a price.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is priced from AU$72,600 ($48,387) drive away, which is a significant premium over some of its competitors.

Such as the $50,825 ($33,874) Hyundai i30 N, the $61,375 ($40,906) VW Golf GTI, and the Toyota GR Corolla that starts at AU$62,300 ($41,522) before on-road costs or approximately AU$68,000 ($45,322) drive away.

But for car enthusiasts who crave ultimate performance and don’t mind paying extra for it, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is definitely worth considering!
