Mercedes-Benz has once again been caught using illegal software to manipulate emissions on its vehicles. The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has identified that Mercedes-Benz is using three software programs to circumvent Euro 6 emissions standards for the OM642 engine in the E350 BlueTec model. Two of these software programs alter the engine’s operation based on certain temperature parameters.
The KBA has requested Mercedes to rectify the operation of these software programs; otherwise, they may be forced to recall the vehicles. Mercedes-Benz, which is collaborating with the agency, has stated that it believes it has already developed the necessary software updates to address these “issues.”
Simultaneously, Mercedes is recalling 11,853 GLC vehicles manufactured between June 14, 2022, and April 24, 2023, due to a potential issue where the front tow hook may detach while towing the vehicle.
