Nio Teases A New Electric Model Ahead Of Its December 18 Unveiling

Arrival is expanding beyond electric buses and delivery vans with the introduction of the company’s first Car prototype.

Designed specifically for ride-hailing services, the prototype was built in six months with the assistance of Uber drivers.

Arrival did not provide additional details about the prototype, but it is roughly the size of a Volkswagen Golf and features a boxy design that maximizes interior space. However, a large windscreen that flows into a panoramic glass roof breaks up the boxy appearance. Additionally, the Car features aerodynamic wheels, a spacious greenhouse, and a nearly vertical front fascia.

The cabin maintains the minimalist design theme, as the model is largely devoid of physical switchgear. Rather than that, a standalone infotainment system handles the majority of the vehicle’s functions and is intended to display ride-hailing-specific information.

While the interior appears to be quite basic, Arrival claims the model has twice the legroom of a similarly sized car and even more than a Rolls Royce. To maximize rear seat legroom, the front passenger seat can be folded down and pushed forward to fit partially beneath the dash.

The Car was designed with “cost, uptime, driver comfort, safety, and convenience” as a top priority. This is significant because the average ride-hailing vehicle travels approximately 27,962-31,069 miles (45,000-50,000 kilometers) per year, according to the company.

Arrival will begin testing the Car next year, and the company’s executive vice president of vehicle platforms, Tom Elvidge, stated, “Electrifying ride-hailing is critical for reducing vehicle emissions in cities globally, while also providing communities with a sustainable, clean multi-modal transportation system.” We are committed to assisting drivers with this transition by developing the best possible ride hailing product that enhances the experience for both them and their passengers while also helping to clean up urban air.” Additionally, he stated that the model will be affordable, durable, and attractive.
