Since late January 2021, VW has been manufacturing the ID.3 at its Dresden factory, also known as the Transparent Factory, which commenced operations back in 2002 with the production of the Phaeton.
The discontinuation of production at the Dresden factory is expected to save 20 million euros annually. Last year, Volkswagen’s Dresden factory produced 6,500 ID.3 vehicles.
This decision is part of VW Group’s plan to reduce production costs and increase profits by 10 billion euros by 2026, with the 300 employees of the factory being absorbed by the company.
