Lexie Alford, the explorer and creator of travel content, who is currently the youngest person to have visited every country in the world, began her incredible journey, “Charge Around The Globe,” on Friday, September 8th, with the new all-electric Ford Explorer. Starting from Nice, France, she will be traveling across six continents.
This journey will include visits to more than 30 countries and aims to demonstrate what is possible with an electric vehicle while simultaneously hoping to become the first person to circumnavigate the globe in a purely electric car. Her journey embodies the spirit of “I can do it,” which was also exemplified by Aloha Wanderwell.
Aloha Wanderwell was the first woman to circumnavigate the world by car nearly a century ago, using a gasoline-powered Ford for her journey. She faced many obstacles during her trip, requiring unconventional solutions, such as enlisting the help of oxen to free her car from mud, sand, and rivers in India.
Similar to Aloha at the time, Lexie will be using a Ford model for her own expedition. The all-electric Ford Explorer, from which she will depart from Le Hotel Royal in Nice (the same starting point as Aloha), is a pre-production prototype but closely resembles what customers in Europe will be able to purchase next summer.
Without special modifications to address upcoming challenges, the Ford Explorer will provide Lexie with comfort, connectivity, and anything else she might need for her epic road trip. While Aloha Wanderwell’s journey served as the primary source of inspiration for this epic road trip, Lexie will forge her own path.
During her journey, Lexie will encounter adverse weather conditions, unpredictable terrains, and insufficient charging infrastructure. Her sole objective is to complete a round-the-world trip for the first time behind the wheel of an electric vehicle. Lexie will be supported on her journey by a crew that will provide protection, medical care, and hardware and software support.
