Columbia Firefighters Association Picnic Tomorrow

The Columbia Firefighters Association will hold their annual Open Family Picnic tomorrow at 1330. Firefighters and their families are encouraged to attend and relax from the stresses of the job.

The picnic will include barbecue and will be held at 130 Arrowood Drive in Columbia, off Bush River Road. It is at the Local 793 meeting house.  A bounce house will be available for children while parents enjoy the food and conversation.

Columbia Firefighters Association To Speak To City Council

According to Columbia Firefighters Association Local 793 PIO, Travis Carricato, CFFA President Mike Cosola will speak to city council tonight to present data collected dealing with the cuts the city has made including several studies that may give the true facts about how well protected the city is with two engines shut down.

Carricato stated the fire department was on the agenda tonight and firefighters are now moving toward proactive solutions to insure city council understands the implications of cuts.

Firefighter Hourly also hopes they discuss what is at stake by creating a ridiculous special tax district.

Mayoral Candidate Kirkman Finlay To Speak To Local 793

Kirkman Finlay, a mayoral hopeful in Columbia, South Carolina, will speak to the Columbia Professional Firefighters Association on October 6, 2009. The meeting will start at 1900 hours at the association house.

Finlay currently serves as a council member in Columbia. A graduate of the University of South Carolina he is the owner of several businesses. Finlay is a member of the Republican Party.

Finlay is running against Joe Azar and Steve Benjamin in a bid to replace the departing Bob Coble who is not seeking reelection. Coble is departing amid a sea of change in city government.

Finlay has been instrumental in pushing through this years budget.
