The IAFF Local in Philadelphia, in the midst of trying to save jobs, now must contend with a nuisance lawsuit brought by African Americans who claim the local is racist. They base this on the local attempting to end the practice of quota's, an outdated and unnecessary tool.
To be fair quota's were needed decades ago but now everyone has an equal shot at promotions. All it requires is the ability to study and pass a test that is given by the city.
This is an obvious attempt to disrupt the running of the local. A consent decree, in place to make sure African Americans are hired despite scores, has been challenged and recently a federal lawsuit was won by five Lieutenants who challenged the quota system. Now this lawsuit is attempting to hit back.
If it reaches court it will likely be dismissed in a rapid manner.
