In an earlier discussion regarding the need for improvement to NIOSH Line of Duty Death Investigations we were gratified to learn the IAFC, along with members from the IAFF, are already working on improving the NIOSH reports.
According to documentation sent to Firefighter Hourly a task force has been in place since 2007 to work with and advise NIOSH on the need for improvements to the reports. Each of Hourly's concerns is being addressed and if the Task Force is successful there will be firefighting expertise added to the reports in the coming years.
Professional firefighters are needed to strengthen the reports. It's akin to the NTSB investigating aircraft accidents. Pilots are a part of the process and the reports are the gold standard in investigations. The fire service should be no different.

This is good news. Hopefully the IAFC will be able to have sufficient input to NIOSH to hire more investigators.
