Milwaukee firefighters and police officers will join a city alderman to protest the dangerous budget cuts the city is seeking. Firefighters and police have united in their disdain for the way the issues are being handled at city hall.
The cuts to the budget are expected to close two fire stations and remove a firefighter from ladder trucks. Other cuts are also included and all of them add up to a much more dangerous city for residents and visitors.
Milwaukee has 36 stations, 37 engines, 16 truck companies and a fire boat. The closure of two stations would cause a domino effect when a fire is taking place. Other units would have to travel farther to get to the scene and that would strip protection from those areas.
The rally is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Serb Hall. The Milwaukee Police Association and the Milwaukee Professional Firefighters Association will participate
