Once again The State Newspaper is way off mark when it comes to reporting on the budget of the Columbia Fire Department.
An OpEd piece claims the fire department ran a deficit. This isn't true. The department was within their budget until city bureaucrats added costs into the budget prior to the end of the year.
The fault rests with poor oversight during the past five years at the council and finance levels of city government.
Costs added to departments budgets to spread the deficit around is not the responsibility of the fire department.

Paul, I'm not certain either. Thought at least two or more reference sources would be checked for immediate contact for verification.
Can't understand why, "The State" seems to side with the City in some of its articles based on un-confirmed information.

The state beat writer is in bed with a bearded council member who will go un named. They cannot handle the truth. When you have more money than a show dog can jump over. He thinks he can call the shots for all city employees'. The IAFF needs to call on the big dogs, we've whipped the city before let's whip um like a rented mule again.
