City Failed To Maintain Apparatus According To Boston Firefighters Union

The City of Boston has failed to act on replacing aging vehicles said the President of Local 718. After seeking permission from the family of Kevin Kelley the union decided to step out and criticize the city.

Mayor Menino and Fire Commissioner Fraser have been at odds with firefighters for over a year. The death of the popular Kelley shines a spotlight on the lack of support given the department by the city.

The commissioner, never a firefighter, ordered an inspection of the E-Ones still in service but the Union wants the state to inspect all apparatus. This seems a wise course of action given the city didn't think to inspect the apparatus prior to the tragic death of Kelley.

More on this in the podcast today.
