Report On Deutsche Bank Fire Critical Of City Of New York, FDNY, Spares Scopetta
Claiming the lives of two firefighters a fire at the Deustche Bank building last year may lead to criminal charges against the City of New York. A report, released to the UFFA but not the public, is critical of the way the building was maintained by the City of New York. New York took over the building after 9/11.
In addition, there are comments in the report critical of the fire department response. FDNY firefighters are supposed to have ridden on the top of a construction elevator and reportedly didn't wear their facepieces for SCBA all the time. This last item is absurd.
A firefighter arriving at a 26 story (down from 41) building is not going on air as soon as the rig stops. In order to function air must be conserved. Further, why are firefighters taken to task when chief officers failed to notify responding firefighters that the building was contaminated.
The failure of this report is not taking to task the leadership in New York. Fire Commissioner Scopetta and senior officers failed firefighters yet receive scant attention in the report.

As I wrote yesterday, Blame has been "placed" on to the shoulders of the lower eschlon firefighters and not the higher ups, who should be held accountable.
If the firefighters were supposed to be "On Air" from the time they entered the building, where was the written SOG and the necessary Logistics Section to support this operation?

This is an Outrage! Yet not unexpected. How many times have you stated;your dislikes for politics. The state, the city, and the chief try to save themselves at whose expense?Exactly! These rats jump from the sinking ship and try to hide.I hope an example will be made this time. This is not a local problem it is all around. It must be corrected.
