Fire Chief Position Under Intense Scrutiny

The position of fire chief in Charleston, South Carolina will never be the same again. The days of one person running the department from the hip with little oversight are gone. Now, and in the future, the scrutiny will be intense.

It's not unusual when it comes to large disasters. NASA officials are watched constantly since the disintegration of Challenger over Florida in 1986. A culture emphasizing risk instead of risk analysis led to the deaths of astronauts and NASA hasn't been the same since.

In Charleston the same holds true. The department today in no way resembles what the department will be in two years. what passes for normal now won't in 24 months as command officers adjust to a modern approach.

At the top is the fire chief. The new chief will be watched closely and will likely enjoy support if the chief chooses to modernize. However, like NASA managers, any attempt to play games with lives will be broadcast to the populace. For this reason alone the next chief needs to be someone with a vision. Good old boys should know their role. Their time is over.

Amen Jay! Amen! AS long as Joe is around everyone must always keep their eyes open and ears close to the ground. Let us hope for once Joe plays by the rules. He has been known to say good things but his actions must now be held up to his words.

The future is bright as long as the Chief picked is looked over good by everyone first with a stake in the choice. Joe can not be allowed to make this decision with out some input from people who understand the dynamics involved. Someone Like the panel who are familiar with the situation. This is not the time for anyone to take anything for granted, until you see it for yourself. Words are great, but so far Joe has not lived up to his words.

Brothers you need to keep pressure on council to support your cause. It is your future and life on the line here. Firefighters are known to do great things when they believe others lives are in danger. WHY NOT DO IT FOR YOUSELVES? WHAT BETTER REASON SHOULD ANY OF YOU NEED? OH! YEA! HOW ABOUT NINE LOST FRIENDS!

When is the next council meeting Ricky?

NOT UNTIL 3 TUESDAY IN AUGUST!
